I am a musical movie junkie. I’ve watched all of the High School Musical and Camp Rock movies thousands of time, I know practically every episode and song on Glee by heart, one of my top search terms on Netflix is musicals, so I was absolutely thrilled to learn that Netflix is set to release its FIRST ever Christian musical, A Week Away, on Friday, March 26.
I love camp movies too, The Parent Trap (both the original starring Haley Mills and the remake starring Lindsay Lohan) has been a favorite since I was knee-high to a grasshopper! If you love musicals, you are going to love this movie! I got a special sneak peek of the movie and I’ve been waiting with bated breath to watch it again, and again, and again!

About A Week Away
Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Disney Channel’s Kevin Quinn) has been passed around from foster home to foster home since he was 10, and finally lands in some serious trouble when he has a run-in with the law that puts him at an important crossroad that can determine his future: go to juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp, Camp Aweegaway. Naturally, summer camp seems the easy way out, even though he is a fish-out-of-water at first. Will opens his heart and discovers love with a camp regular, Avery (played by Bailee Madison), whose father runs the camp. Will finds a sense of belonging in the last place he expected to find it.

The cast of Netflix’s film, A Week Away, featured on the soundtrack includes Kevin Quinn, Bailee Madison, Jahbril Cook, Kat Conner Sterling, Iain Tucker, and Sherri Shepherd. My favorite songs? God Only Knows (Campfire Medley), Place in This World, and Amy Grant’s song, Baby, Baby.
The actors and actresses did an exceptional job with the music and choreography for the movie. So many of my beloved Christian songs made it into the movie, so I was able to sing right along with them – the true test of a beloved movie!
The film includes three new original tunes penned by Adam Watts (High School Musical 3 and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert). Adam also produced, arranged, engineered, mixed, and mastered all the songs, apart from the bonus track with Johnnyswim.
You can listen to the A Week Away movie soundtrack anywhere you stream music.
My Review of A Week Away

As someone who had the amazing experience of attending camp as a teenager, I am positive that this movie will resonate with a lot of today’s teenagers. I don’t want to give anything away, but the ending has a surprising twist that leaves the storyline open for A Week Away 2 – and yes, I am shamelessly rooting for a sequel already!
This movie brought back a lot of memories for me, as I’m sure it will for those who have had the pleasure of attending summer camp growing up. There is a magical quality that the film effortlessly incorporates into how “aweegaway” at camp can give someone an experience that changes everything for them. I’m going to stop now so I don’t give any more away!
