J.'s 6th grade class had a field trip scheduled to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. I was excited about the possibility to chaperone when I learned about the field trip – I have always been a lover of trips such as these where you can see how others lived during a different time period and learn about the conditions they lived under. To see how their homes were decorated (or not), learn how they had to do things that we seem to take for granted in this technological day and age that we live … [Read more...] about Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia
This is seriously tweaking my last nerve – the only way the GFC widget will show up is when using Internet Explorer. I've tried it with Firefox as well as Chrome and it won't show up at all in either of them, but works fine for IE. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to correct this and get it to work properly in ALL of my browser windows? … [Read more...] about Google Friend Connect
Those of you who have followed The MAD White Woman and TBK Designs know that my eldest son, J., has ADHD and has struggled for many years with issues in school and at home due to this disorder. We have tried several different options, some of which have worked, others which have not. The one constant that we have learned however is that no two children react the same way. ADHD is a common behavior disorder that affects an estimated 8% to 10% of school-age children, with boys seeming more susceptible to be diagnosed with it, … [Read more...] about Actions, Consequences and Parenting Styles
To all of my fellow American Bloggers…have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving tomorrow. Allow bygones to be bygones, and move forward with the holiday spirit in your heart. Be thankful for all that you have, for the good friends and family by your side, and for having a Higher Power that you love and believe in. For if you have those simple things in your life, you have everything that you need. And on another note – a dear friend of mine whipped this up this morning and I just had to share it with you all. THANKSGIVING … [Read more...] about Happy Thanksgiving!
I have to tell you, I am a sucker for zoo field trips of any kind. I am fascinated with being able to see animals from around the world that I would never have an opportunity to see in real life. So when school started in September and I noticed a field trip scheduled for the entire 3rd grade to the Richmond Metro Zoo in November – I was chomping at the bit to sign up as a chaperone for it and go with my mini-man! I think his teacher, Mrs. Magner, probably started to worry back in October when I began bombarding her with … [Read more...] about Richmond Metro Zoo Field Trip
The Mechanicsville Miler is an annual event held by the mini-brat’s school each October where members of the community, faculty, and students can enter to run the 3 mile run/walk, a 1 mile fun run, and a 100 yard dash for the little ones. This year there were 100 entrants for the 3 mile run/walk. Tre was adamant that he wanted to do the one mile fun run, so we signed him up by the deadline and got his registration packet and he was ready to go. And then he got sick. My mini-man came down with one of his horrible fall season … [Read more...] about The Mechanicsville Miler and Halloween 2011

In 1979, my mother and father – David and Gloria Wildermuth – had a dream to build and own their own home. For many years they scrimped and saved and built their money up and we finally began. My brother and I carried cinder blocks and bricks till our hands bled, we hammered well into the wee hours of the morning, we slathered mortar between the bricks to hold them in place, we sawed and chopped and cut for many months until it was finally finished. This is our home – will always be our home. There are … [Read more...] about Fire Destroys a Dream
