Do you know why we call it Christmas? The boys and I thought we knew why it was called Christmas. Thought being the operative word there. We really had no idea!
I received a copy of this wonderfully informative and entertaining DVD to facilitate this review, but as always, all opinions are 100% our own.
Jonathan, Tre, and I sat down to have a watch this weekend. It was cold and raining outside, perfect weather to snuggle on the couch together under the blanket and watch some holiday shows.
VeggieTales creator, Phil Vischer, along with our new favorite reporter, Buck Denver, took us on an amazing journey into the world’s most popular holiday. Buck decides to throw a Christmas party, and invites all of his friends. As they are traveling to Buck’s cabin in the woods, they each tell us a different part of the Christmas story and how it came to be called “Christmas.” You’ll learn all about the following:
- Where does the word Christmas come from?
- When was Jesus born? (that one really surprised us!)
- What do Christmas trees have to do with Jesus?
- Who is St. Nicholas?
- What is Hanukkah? (Did you know that Christians can celebrate Hanukkah as well? There’s a reason!)
- Who is Emmanuel … and what does it mean?
- The Christmas Story (which most of us are familiar with) from Luke 2
The movie lasted about an hour, and was not only extremely educational – it was loads of fun to watch! You know it was good if I could get the 15-year-old to actually sit and watch the movie with us – and engage and interact about it as well!
