Chicken Soup for the Soul & Zaycon Fresh Foods Review and Giveaway

I love to cook, and cooking food that I know that everyone in my family will enjoy is just double happy points for this mom. I also want to make sure that what I prepare for them is fresh, healthy, and naturally tastes amazing. That’s why I am super thrilled to tell you about the partnership between Chicken Soup for the Soul and Zaycon Fresh Foods!

Zaycon Fresh (formerly Zaycon Foods) has quite literally stolen my heart. Their products are high quality, farm-fresh food like my grandfather used to raise. With two teenagers in the house, the more than 30% off our grocery store prices is an absolute bonus! Zaycon Fresh now has an Event Calendar where you can go type in your city and state and find out when the next delivery is coming to town! If you live in the Richmond, VA area, just keep tabs on my Facebook page as I will most definitely be sharing upcoming deliveries! I like knowing that they sell only what they eat – high quality, healthy foods, commonly consumed food items such as fresh meats like chicken, beef, turkey, pork, and fish.

Chicken Soup for the Soul has been a favorite of mine for many years. Their inspirational and motivational stories have helped me navigate through some difficult and trying times and have seen me through some difficult times. I know that it might sound a bit corny, but Chicken Soup for the Soul is a bit like grandmotherly advice. It’s common sense, honest, uplifting and inspires you to keep going and take life one day at a time. A personal favorite of mine is the Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Strength for Women app available in the iTunes App Store.

So, you can just imagine how utterly thrilled I was when I learned that Chicken Soup for the Soul had an entire line of food items and that they were partnering with Zaycon Fresh and I could buy my items from Chicken Soup for the Soul or order them directly from Zaycon Fresh. I mean, seriously, how much more awesome could a mother take?

Just so you know, Chicken Soup for the Soul and Zaycon Fresh provided me with complimentary products to facilitate this review. All opinions expressed, as always, are my own.

I love that, like their inspirational books, Chicken Soup for the Soul food is nutritious and is made to bring people together around the table for healthy and delicious meals. They are offering food for the soul and food for the body! Created by Chef John Doherty (former Executive Chef at the Waldorf Astoria), everything is of the highest quality and at prices lower than their competition with sustainable packaging in environmentally friendly Tetra Pak cartons and glass. That’s important to me.

Zaycon Fresh sells all of their food by the case so there are no extra costs for handling and no empty shelves either! I was astonished at the size of the chicken breasts that I received. I was expecting the small chicken breasts that you normally would pick up at your local grocery store. One chicken breast would have equaled about three packages of boneless chicken breasts I could buy in the store.

I have extremely choosy eaters in my home. What hubby and I like, the boys don’t. What the boys like, we aren’t always crazy about. One thing that we all agree on though – homemade chicken soup, slow-cooked chicken breasts, and homemade chicken salad!

homemade chicken salad

I cooked four chicken breasts in the crock pot the night before for dinner with some mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of fresh string beans. While the food was absolutely delicious, the chicken so tender it just melted in your mouth, and the boys helping themselves to seconds and thirds – I still had almost two full chicken breasts left over. So the following night we ate a bit lighter, and had homemade chicken salad!

Since my husband is having surgery tomorrow, and we need to be up at the ungodly hour of 4AM to get ready to go to the hospital and get him registered and settled in for his 7:30AM surgery, dinner was very light, quick and simple – but something that the boys would eat every day of the week if they could. One of our family favorite go-to meals in a pinch.
