It’s easy to get into a habit of clutter. Before you know it, the cluttered home is a dump, the yard is no better, and it feels like a mammoth task to clear. I wouldn’t blame you for feeling helpless at this point. It’s never easy to know where to start or where to look. But, that rubbish isn’t going to move on its own. You need to take steps to make your home clean and safe to live in, and there’re lots of different ways in which you can approach the task.

I still struggle with this problem, I have teenage boys in the house, remember? However, knowing how to solve the problem though has enabled me to live clutter-free for the most part many years, and it’s such a better quality of life. I’ve taken steps to make sure this doesn’t happen on a large-scale ever again, which means lots of yelling and gadget confiscation for the teenagers. For those of you who are struggling, here are some ways in which you can free your cluttered home for good.

Ask Friends And Family For Help

OK, so this is a good place to start. If you’ve got generous friends or family, ask them to come round and help. They don’t need to help with the real clearing-up, they could just map out a plan of action for you to make things easier. The more people involved, the better. If they are willing to go the extra mile, you’ll be clearing that rubbish in no time. The task of removing clutter doesn’t seem as formidable when there’re some extra hands involved. Make it an activity: have a laugh and a joke, put some music on and use this as a good chance to catch up with each other. Make the most of the day, and it may not even feel like a chore.

One Room At A Time

Depending on the scale of the clutter, you could be looking at a slight mess in the corner of a room or a full-scale house invasion of the stuff. That’s enough to put anyone off. One of the biggest reasons why people allow their houses to get so messy is the scale of the problem. Suddenly, it gets out of hand, and the house-owner can no longer see a solution in the distance. Well, there is one, but it’s a fairly lengthy one. You need to tackle this issue one room at a time. Start with the bathroom, move to the living room, bedrooms, and even move outside to the yard. This might take a day; it might take multiple days or it could even take weeks. It doesn’t matter; as long as you’re making progress, it’s a positive thing.

Yard Sale

Here’s a good one: hold a yard sale to get rid of some of your unwanted items. You’ve had this conversation before. The one where someone asks you to get rid of something, but you think you want to keep it? Put those items aside, decide which to sell and which you don’t want. It’s difficult to let go, but you need to reduce that clutter somehow. Holding a yard sale is fun, and it’ll make you a bit of profit in the process (which can you spend on cleaning materials!). Of course, you can always hold these items back and sell them on eBay or another online shop. The thing is, that means packaging things up, mailing them and all the other annoyances that come with online sales. For now, concentrate on the task at hand. Holding a yard sale will kill two birds with one stone, allowing you to focus on clearing the home, as well as getting rid of unwanted items.

Professional Services

It’s not always easy to deal with this kind of thing on your own, or even with friends. Clutter can sometimes mean heavy, large objects that can’t be removed very easily. Maybe the scale of the problem is just too great, and you need some professional help to assist you. Well, you’re in luck. There are companies out there that specialize in rubbish removal, such as Jim’s Mowing. You’ll often find that professional companies will be able to help in multiple ways, too. By relying on these guys, you don’t need to worry about frequent trips to the dump. Just chuck everything into bags, leave it in the yard, and let the professionals deal with it. This is a great way to reduce that overwhelming feeling that I talked about earlier, and it’s also an affordable one. Make a plan, analyze what you need, and make your life easier.

Don’t Give Up

After everything I’ve said, it all comes back to this. Please, whatever you do, don’t give up! The task is never too big for you to deal with. There’s always a way to get around any potential issues. Giving up and restricting yourself to a life of rubbish and clutter is not the way to go. If you do, your health will suffer, both mentally and physically. People won’t want to come to your home anymore, and that’s a huge and unnecessary confidence destroyer. If you’ve made your way around half of the house and you can’t face doing anymore, that’s OK! Stop, take a minute to relax, but don’t leave it too long until you get started again. It’s easy to become complacent and be satisfied with half an effort, but before long you’ll be in the same position all over again. Don’t give up.

We’ve all seen those TV programs where professionals enter a disgusting house that’s full of clutter and rubbish. Don’t allow your home to get to this state. It might seem like a distant possibility, but life is hectic, and if you don’t keep on top of things, that’s where you could end up.

Follow our tips, clean up your home, and then stick to a rigid schedule to make sure it never happens again. Finally, make sure you have fun doing this. Find a way to make cleaning-up exciting, and you might find that it becomes a secret hobby of yours, who knows?!
