Facebook Targets Bloggers

Imagine my utter disappointment when I received the following email from Ladonna at Mom Blog Society this morning:

If you are a blogger
If you enter giveaways
This is a must read.

Bloggers doing giveaway will no longer be allowed to put their Facebook Fan page on a host page for likes.

This means: We will have to use Twitter, Pinterest, Picket Fence and YouTube instead.

FANS: There is NOTHING we can do about this. Facebook is placing holds on bloggers accounts.
Please read the following: A blogger received this email from Facebook.

It appears that a significant number of the “Likes” or “Subscriptions” to your Page may have been obtained in violation of our terms. This is a result of your participation in gaining likes in an inauthentic manner. Gaining likes by placing the like button on like-farms is not legal. We have found you to be doing the same at and other sites. Likes have to be authentic and users should not be forced to like a page. In order to address this issue, we have taken the steps necessary to remove these Likes or Subscriptions and have placed a temporary restriction on your page to gain external likes for 30 days. Make sure you make the changes within this duration. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Thanks.

FANS: We will continue to do our best to bring you amazing giveaways. Please bare with us as we transition into this new process. As you all know, Twitter is hard because they only allow you to follow so many fans vs. the amount you have following you.

If you don’t have a YouTube account or Twitter account and would still like to enter these giveaways, I strong suggest you get one.

BLOGGERS: If you have old host pages on your site that host Facebook likes, I would strongly recommend you remove the ones that have ended.

If you have questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Once again, it appears that Facebook is ‘rolling out the guns’ to try and find a way to stifle the growth of those of us out there just hoping to make some additional income for our families, or just bringing you some truly awesome giveaways – for no reason other than thinking it’s a great product, a great opportunity, or just loads of fun to help host a giveaway!

For those of you not sure what all this is about … if you have ever entered an online giveaway hosted by a blogger, then you know that you are normally directed to a host page that has a collection of Facebook Fan Pages listed (belong to the sponsor, the host, and the co-hosts of the giveaway) for you to click on and “Like” each of them as another means to gain additional entries in the giveaway. This is what Facebook is attempting to put an end to.

Well the great folks at Mom Blog Society have offered directions to set up your own page on their site which can be used when entering giveaways as well. I’ve set mine up and you can find me here – http://momblogsociety.com/liah/ – and I would love for you to add me as a friend (if you are already a member) or just click the Love button in the Mom Blog Society widget on the blog in the upper right corner.

Mark Zuckerberg – you should be ashamed of yourself. ‘nuff said.
