Are you thinking about installing your new flooring yourself? I mean, all those great HGTV shows make it look so easy, how hard could it be, right? Before you jump head first into the process (only to give up and start looking for professional flooring installers in Dallas), consider these things.
The folks on all those great home and garden shows that we all love manage to make this look super easy – simply because they actually do have plenty of experience or they have hidden help off camera! Instead of jumping into this DIY project with both feet, be honest and think about the following things FIRST.

How much time do you think it will take to install your flooring? Remember that the professionals on television are highly edited, making things look like they took much less time. Now, answer that question honestly. It will probably take you several days to remove the current flooring, repair the subfloor (yes, you need to do that, too), and then install the current flooring. Do you have the free time that it will take to do all of these things? Or is it easier to hire someone and save yourself the headache?
Be Honest About Your Skills
Now, it’s time to honestly evaluate your overall DIY skills. Are you capable of putting in your own flooring? Or are you like me and just think you have a DIY green thumb and can tackle any DIY project like a pro? Have you done this before – or even helped someone do it? If you don’t have any experience and aren’t sure where to begin the job, then you may not want to do it yourself. Instead, you’re better off hiring an expert. However, if you have some general experience with laying flooring and DIY a lot of things on your own, then you should have no issues at least attempting it yourself.
Do You Have the Necessary Tools?
Also, you need to think about whether or not you have the tools that you need in order to complete the job. If you have a husband who is in maintenance and a tool hoarder, you have everything you need most likely. If you don’t and have to buy them, then you need to factor their cost into the overall price of your flooring. Once you add up how much those specialty tools will cost, you might realize that it would be cheaper overall to just hire an expert flooring installation company. Plus, it will save you some time and a lot of headaches. You’d be surprised at how expensive those tools are and how difficult some of them are to find. (Ask me about the horror stories of trying to find a specific drill bit for a favorite drill that almost ended our marriage.)
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?
There’s always the chance that something will go wrong during the installation process. If your life is like ours, Murphy’s Law rules your every waking moment. Anything that can go wrong, will. You might break too many tiles and need to purchase replacements. You could measure the room wrong and not purchase enough carpeting. You might not know how to repair the subfloor before you even get started with the installation. When something goes wrong, you could call one of the many professional flooring installers in Dallas to fix the problem, which will cost quite a bit of money, because they’ll have to not only go back over your mistakes but probably start over from scratch with new flooring. It’s cheaper, in this case, to just hire a professional in the first place.
