GE Reveal Light Bulb Review

I received two four-packs of the new GE Reveal® light bulbs to review in exchange for a candid post about the light bulbs. All comments are 100% my own and have not been influenced in any way. In addition, my apologies to the fine folks at Target and GE for the delay in getting my review completed. (I should have had it completed several weeks ago – life gets in the way sometimes unfortunately!)

Different Types of Light Bulbs

About three years ago, we switched out all the incandescent light bulbs in our home and switched to the compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL) because they used less electricity and last up to ten times longer according to the FTC. Granted, they cost a bit more upfront, but they last longer. Our incandescent light bulbs required about 70 percent more electricity to produce the same amount of light as the compact flourescent bulbs, and in a family that’s all about savings – that’s a huge difference!

Why Are GE Reveal® Bulbs Different?

GE Reveal® bulbs are LED light bulbs. With our CFL bulbs, the lighting was dim and had a yellow tint, and it seemed to take an hour at times for them to “warm” enough to emit light at full capacity. Not so with our Reveal® bulbs. They instantly produce a brilliant but just-right amount of light that really does transform the look of your home. I have to admit, I was skeptical. I mean, a light bulb is a light bulb, right? They light up your room, you can throw different colored bulbs in to change the lighting scheme if you want – but I thought they all basically did the same thing.

NOT SO. With our CFL bulbs, I really thought our walls were yellow and dingy looking from all the years that we’ve lived here in our apartment. The time-for-a-paint-job type dingy. I replaced the CFL bulbs with the new GE Reveal® bulbs and WOW. Crisp white light that shows my walls are NOT that horrible (although now I can really see all the smudges and marks that the boys have put everywhere!) and I don’t have to wait for them to warm up! Not only that, these light bulbs will last over a decade according to GE, based on three hours of use per day.

I replaced the light bulbs in our ceiling fan in our bedroom as well as the lamps in our living room. These photos have not been retouched or altered in any way so you can see the exact way the lighting changed with a change of light bulbs.

I am literally blown away at the difference. I mean, those pictures speak VOLUMES as to the change in lighting! I’m not having to squint when I’m trying to read any longer, everything is crystal clear and easily read with this lighting.
