When you decide to pull up roots and move, it’s important that this endeavor is done so in a stress free way. We all know that moving can be time-consuming. Don’t Forget to Plan

Planning is critical to any stress free move. If you know that you are leaving your property, and you have a new one ready to move into, you need to start planning. Think about how you will complete your home moving tasks three months ahead of your move date. Make a list of what you need to do in that time. Get mail redirected. Call in carpet cleaners. Fix up the home. Keep it maintained. Make sure that the grass is cut. Book a removal company. All of these things need to be planned in advance. So, get a diary and a calendar and fill in pertinent dates. Make sure that you download an app to get you ahead of schedule. Planning can help your move be a stress-free venture. Just make sure that you give yourself enough time.

Self Storage is Your New BFF

Storage can be a great way of making sure that your home remains uncluttered. If you want to start packing away unused rooms but have no storage for your belongings, self storage is the perfect solution. What’s more, you can rent this storage space out for as long as you need. You don’t have to live out of boxes. You can have room in your home without having piles of stuff everywhere! A simple internet search will retrieve a lot of results. Just use simple search terms such as public storage in Houston. Of course, tailor it to your location to make sure that you find services local to you. The internet will help you preserve your sanity during your move.

Have a Goal in Mind

Think about your packing goals and deadlines. Setting aside days to complete tasks is important. Make sure that you have enough time to follow these tasks through. But, also factor in delays and problems that may arise. For example, you may want to get a decorator in to give the property a lick of paint. Make sure that you book in advance and have a deadline set for your move date. Having workable dates and goals keeps you organised.

Don’t Overload Yourself: Making Light Work of Moving

Never think of your house move as one single entity. You’ll go crazy. Instead, chunk down the tasks in a more efficient way. Start by packing rooms one at a time. Work one room and when it is packed, clean it and make it fit for the next owners. By doing this, you won’t overload yourself. It’s all about stress management, after all.

  1. Reading this helped me understand how complex a house move is and how stressful the whole process can be. Thanks for sharing this interesting and helpful post. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks you're an amazing writer.

  2. Moving to a new location can be very stressful indeed! This is why people who are moving out of their current residence should allow themselves 8 to 12 weeks to get things done, whether they decide to use professional movers or not. Thanks for the tips, Kim! I love the last tip – don't overload yourself.

    • Thanks for the comment Tammy and I agree with you – moving is extremely stressful. I told my husband that if and when we need to move again, I'm hiring someone to come in and pack everything up. I absolutely hate the packing but I love the unpacking part and finding a new home for all of our belongings! It's also a great way to clean house lol!
