Our #GameDayTraditions with Walmart and Proctor & Gamble

This is a sponsored post in connection with SheSpeaks and P&G. All opinions are 100% my own.

I have never been a huge football fan when it comes to watching a big game on television. I would prefer being at the game myself, seeing the action, watching the people – now that’s where the fun is! However, being at home with family and friends watching the big game is loads of fun too (and the one time I don’t complain about the big screen television in our apartment living room) and we don’t have to worry about being too cold or too hot or spending a fortune on stadium food and drinks. So in light of this year’s epic big game coming up next weekend, I want to share some of our #GameDayTraditions.

Game Day Traditions

Plan the Menu

Let’s face it, when there is a big game on the television, the last thing that anyone wants to do is eat a big meal. So finger foods and appetizers it is! It is also hard to believe that football season is coming to an end already, but end it will and we are going to celebrate in true big game tradition style. Our friends and the boys love chicken salad and ham biscuits, cheese platters, ice-cold beer and soda in the cooler, a variety of chips, pretzels and crackers for our favorite dip and we are good to go. The list is made out for the menu, now it’s time to focus on the cleaning!

Time to Clean House

Since I’m not the best at cleaning (cough cough) we need to schedule some cleaning time before a party or gathering at our house. Here is my “quick and dirty” clean up list when you need to clean but don’t necessarily want to clean.

Purge the Clutter

Grab a cloth shopping bag (we have tons lying around the house) and start purging the main area where your guests will be of everything that does not belong. Use different colored bags for different members of the household, and put all of their belongings in their bag. Drop it off at the bedroom door when full, then it is their problem to put everything away.

Grab the Swiffer

I absolutely love our Swiffer dusters and Swiffer wet and dry mop. Each of the kids are assigned a duster and a space, and we make a game out of who can get their area the cleanest in the quickest amount of time. Once the dusting is done, time to hit the hardwood floors with the Swiffer dry mop and the carpets with the vacuum cleaner.

Make that Bowl Sparkle

I hate cleaning the bathrooms, simply because I don’t think I should have to clean up behind three grown men, but that’s a post for another day. So my job is to make sure the bathroom sparkles. Easy enough to do with my Mr. Clean with Febreze, my Bounty, and a bit of elbow grease.

It’s time to head to Walmart to grab our favorite P&G home care products such as name, name, name and the items we need for the menu for our big game tradition preparations.

Walmart and P&G make sure we have everything we need for our #GameDayTraditions

I hate to waste anything, which is why Bounty Select-A-Size is always at the top of my list. I love the smaller size for quick clean-ups (like a spilled drink from an overly excited fan), or to quickly wipe up the Cheesy Bacon Spinach Dip that fell on the coffee table.

Febreze

A great little trick I have is taking a small sheet and folding it in half, and then folding it in half yet again. It’s the perfect size coaster for those drink glasses and 2x more absorbent means no stains or marks on your wood tables!

Next on the list is Febreze Air Effects Linen & Sky scent. I have candles setting everywhere in my home, along with little tart burners – there is something in all of the rooms. Nothing works as quickly though as this particular Febreze scent. The entire family loves it and it will eliminate whatever odor you need gone in just a few quick bursts!

Charmin Ultra Strong

Of course, with all this great food and drinks everyone will be consuming, next on the must-have list is our Charmin Ultra Strong mega rolls. I cannot stand cheap toilet paper, and this is one area where I refuse to cut costs when it comes to my fanny because I don’t need to! Charmin is so soft and gentle, yet it is four times stronger (when wet) than the leading bargain brand. That’s definitely not a bargain. Walmart makes sure that I have my Charmin Ultra Strong whenever I need it. They know that it is clog-safe and septic-safe – a definite must in this household with two teenage boys!

A quick trip to the dairy and produce aisle to pick up the remaining ingredients for our Cheesy Bacon Spinach Dip and we are ready to head back home with everything we need and money still in our pocket! Thanks for the low prices Walmart!

Prepare the Munchies

Now that we’re home, it’s time to prepare the food and get everything organized. The boys have bedroom detail – they are busy picking up clothes and toys off the floor, cleaning up the trash in their rooms, and returning all of my bowls and utensils that have mysteriously gone missing.

While they do that, hubby is busy putting drinks on ice in the cooler and making sure that everything in the living room is picked up and organized and ready for our guests.

I am in the kitchen, naturally (did you honestly think I would want to help clean?) busily preparing ham biscuits, chicken salad biscuits, getting the shrimp cocktail platter out, stocking up the ice-cube trays again, getting the dishes in the dishwasher as we go to keep the kitchen tidy, and making our favorite dip – Cheesy Bacon Spinach Dip! I’m sharing the recipe below with you!

The After Party – Post-Game Clean Up

Much as we hate to admit it, a really great big game can cause one heck of a mess! You’ve got the messy wings, dips, biscuit bread everywhere, spilled sodas and let’s not even mention the spills and stains on the clothing! No need to worry though! Make sure you have plenty of Tide PODS Spring Meadow on hand for those tough stains. They get your clothing six times cleaner and are a 3-in-1 wonder pod – detergent, stain remover and brightener – all in one pod!

They work awesome in standard and HE machine types, and the stain remover really is amazing. I sliced my finger the other day cutting some meat in the kitchen and had blood everywhere on my shirt – a white one at that! I just knew it was ruined, didn’t even bother to get my hopes up. After I bandaged my finger, I put the shirt in the washing machine with a few other whites and a Tide pod and waited. When the wash had finished and I pulled it out, I couldn’t find even a hint of the stain anywhere. The scent is absolutely amazing too! I love the fresh clean spring meadow scent!

Clean up after the big game is a breeze with all the amazing products available at Wal-Mart from Proctor and Gamble. So once the game is over, enlist the help of everyone to do their part to wash the dishes or load the dishwasher, clean up the bottles, cans, and glasses, throw out the paper plates, wipe up the spills and you’re done.

Then you can all sit back and discuss those amazing plays from the big game and relax in the company of good friends!

  1. Game day will be here soon. So much fun. These are great preparation suggestions for before and after the party. I will be giving this recipe a try. I love the products you chose. I use these too. Thank you so much for sharing

  2. (Our #GameDayTraditions with Walmart and Proctor & Gamble) I know, I need to start planning all the things that I want for our big Super Bowl celebration. It is just around the corner.

  3. Sounds like you have game day down pat! I’m not a big football fan but I get being a fan. Like you, I also do a quick un-clutter. And it all gets placed on the stairs. My family knows they better pick up their bag of stuff and get it out of my sight. Don’t mess with me when I’m cleaning! lol
