Signs of Job Burnout and What You Can Do About It

If you are concerned that you are experiencing job burnout then you need to do something about this. If you take steps now then you should find that you can feel better within yourself and that you can tackle whatever life may throw your way.

Exhaustion

Exhaustion is a persistent level of fatigue and you may find that even with rest, you are not able to alleviate it. You may feel mentally and emotionally drained at the end of the day and you may even find that you end up feeling run down too. If you want to avoid this then one thing you can do is take steps to combat it. You need to rest when you feel as though you need to, and you also need to try and get a good level of balance in your life. If you can do this then you will soon find that you end up being able to give yourself enough time to rest, recover, and restore your energy levels.

Loss of Enthusiasm

The stress and frustration that you may experience when you are under a lot of pressure from work can leave you feeling resentful and cynical. You might also find that you end up waking up every day dreading work. Studies have shown time and time again that if you don’t have enough control and if you don’t have enough recognition from the work that you do then this can make you feel burnt out and devalued.

Reduced Performance

Another sign that you may be experiencing burnout is if your job performance is taking a hit. You may find that you have a hard time concentrating and that you are way less efficient overall. You may find your assignments late all the time and you may also find that you end up forgetting things you should remember. It may also become more difficult for you to deal with the stressors that you are under. At the end of the day, this can be a major sign of burnout and it may even go on to impact other aspects of your life too, which is the last thing you want. If you need some help here then try and make sure that you take steps to recognize the way you feel, and then take action on it.

Worry and Anxiety

You may feel anxious and worried at times. This is especially the case if you feel as though your performance is taking a hit because of burnout. You may feel better when you can get home and do things you enjoy, but even then, you can’t get the motivation to do anything other than dwell. Research has shown that burnout is often related to the development of mood disorders too, including depressive symptoms and anxiety. If you want to do something about this then make sure that you talk through your feelings with someone and that you also stop it from getting the better of you.

Sleep Issues

If stress is affecting your ability to sleep then this is another major mistake. You may find that you are not able to sleep properly and that you find it hard to unwind when you need to. If you want to help yourself here then it may be that you have developed insomnia, and need to talk with someone about it.  If you find that you end up using alcohol as a way to fall asleep but then find that you wake up early feeling bad then you may have a bit of an alcohol problem. In instances such as this, you definitely should seek residential treatment.

Irritability

If you feel more irritable then this is a major sign that you need to put a stop to the amount of stress you are under. You may find that you end up having mood swings too and this can take its toll on your relationships. It can affect everyone around you and this is the last thing you want. If you want to try and help yourself here then you need to stop and you need to give some thought as to how you could be helping others by improving yourself. It may be that you need to take on less responsibility at work so you can put a focus on your family first or that you talk to your boss about the signs of burnout you are experiencing so you can take steps to combat it.
