Airport Travel Experiences in Rome

If you are planning an upcoming trip to Rome you may want to give careful consideration to an often overlooked element of your travel adventure. It’s quite likely that you’ve booked your airline tickets and looked for the best price, and excitedly researched and planned out all the sites you will see. Rome is an amazing city, and you can’t wait to be there!

To avoid airport misadventures, though, you should also plan out your travel to and from the airports of Rome. Although there are options for public transportation and taxis there, wise travelers in the know indicate that you should be aware of some tricks and traps.

Airport Travel Options in Rome

Rome is serviced by two primary airports. The main airport is Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International Airport, which is 24 miles (38 km) south west of the city of Rome. A second airport, Ciampino, is located approximately 10 miles (15km) south east of Rome.

Taxis are available at both airports but lines are often long and service therefore slow. Tourists may also be vulnerable to fake taxi drivers so you must be sure you take a marked official taxi from the line.

Authorities in Rome have capped taxi rates so if you feel something in the charges is not quite right, write down the taxi license number and let the driver know you are doing that. You can then call the taxi hotline to report the issue.

Express train service is available from Fiumicino to the main railway station, Stazione Termini. Remember to get your ticket stamped in the validating machine on the main platform if you choose this option.

Ciampino Airport is actually a military airport that has been adding passenger services. Primary public transit access is by the Metro, a very crowded and sluggish bus system. Public buses have little room for luggage and the aisles become very crowded with standing passengers and excess baggage.

A Better Alternative

If the thought of struggling with luggage on unfamiliar public transport doesn’t appeal to you, and you’d rather not deal with fake taxi drivers and uncertain taxi charges there is a better alternative. Blacklane offers elegant private chauffeured car airport transfer in Rome at both airports.

Blacklane’s fleet of cars includes high end Mercedes-Benz sedans and vans, and all Blacklane vehicles and professional drivers are fully vetted and commercially licensed and insured. All taxes, tolls, fees and tips are included in your fare and you will know exactly what you will pay before beginning your journey.

Setting up your airport transfer with Blacklane is a snap, and can be done via their website or on their mobile app. Simply enter your start and end destinations, the date and time of your ride request and select the class of automobile that you require.

On the day of your travel you will receive email and SMS notifications when your car is leaving to pick you up and when the driver arrives. Drivers can also track your flight so they know exactly when you arrive at the airport, and they receive instant traffic notifications when they need to change routes to save time.

If you would like to take the hassle out of travel to the airport, Blacklane is the solution for you. It’s a stress free, professional service that will have you wishing you had a private driver every day.
