I am sharing my mother's infamous Shrimp and Pecan Cheese Ball with my readers today. Originally the recipe did not call for bacon, but since Dad loved his bacon so - Mom altered the recipe to put oodles of crispy bacon throughout the cheese ball for him and it became a HUGE success. My mom loved to cook, and we loved testing out whatever she and Nana came up with! During the holidays, our kitchen island was filled with tasty treats to nibble on all season long. Over the next few days, I will be sharing with you my mother's favorite … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Shrimp Pecan and Bacon Cheese Ball

Mom’s Recipes – Heavenly Ambrosia
Heavenly Ambrosia, Heavenly Hash, Angel Pudding, whatever you choose to call it, this family tradition for Thanksgiving dates back generation after generation. My grandparents said that they're parents used to make this for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and our family is no different. It is the only time of the year that I make it, and it is something that we all look forward to year after year. This dessert is super easy to make, clean-up is minimal, and you can tailor the recipe to suit your taste. We love to add chopped … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Heavenly Ambrosia
Mom’s Recipes – Homemade Zucchini Bread
I remember growing up as a young girl, there was absolutely nothing in this world that could keep me out of the kitchen when mom was making her homemade zucchini bread! The wonderful smell of it baking in the oven would just tickle your nose until it damn near drove you nuts if you didn't get a piece fresh out the oven! I love mine warm with a smidge of butter melting away on top, but it's also great at room temperature. The nice thing about zucchini bread is that it freezes extremely well! When we would harvest the zucchini's in the truck … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Homemade Zucchini Bread
Mom’s Recipes – Pennsylvania Dutch Dandelion Salad
I know it may not sound all that appetizing; however if you get some fresh, young dandelion greens from your yard - this salad is super easy to make and absolutely delicious! It is a definite favorite from our family recipes - my nana taught me how to make this for my granddad many years ago. … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Pennsylvania Dutch Dandelion Salad
Mom’s Recipes – A New Year’s Tradition – Pork Roast with Sauerkraut
It is a tradition in our family, as far back as I can remember, to serve pork roast with sauerkraut for dinner on January 1. We had our seafood feast on New Year's Eve while we watched the ball drop in Times Square, and our pork roast with sauerkraut on New Year's Day. I remember asking my father why we had to eat the same thing every year on New Year’s Day and he replied: A hog cannot look backwards, they root forward, so they are always facing forward and never walk backwards or root backwards. Our German ancestors believed that they also … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – A New Year’s Tradition – Pork Roast with Sauerkraut
Mom’s Recipes – Homemade Macaroni and Cheese
I made homemade macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving for my family - the first time. It was a simple recipe (which I will share below) but it was the kind that was best made a day ahead of time so that things had time to congeal and solidify. Tasted 100% better the following day as leftovers! This is my mom's recipe for homemade Macaroni and Cheese that I later made for my family. I thought there was going to be a fist fight between the boys over who would get the last bit left! This is a winner! Does your family have a favorite homemade … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Homemade Macaroni and Cheese
Mom’s Recipes – Pecan Pie
The holidays always get me to thinking about the wonderful desserts that my mom used to make, especially during Christmas. Our house was always filled with the scents of baking cookies and pies from November through New Years. Mom would bake up enough cookies to last (so we thought) a lifetime, but usually by the first week of January, all those goodies were gone. One of my favorites is my mom’s pecan pie recipe. You can also add brandy to the mix and cut back on the corn syrup to make it a more ‘grown up’ dessert for those office Christmas … [Read more...] about Mom’s Recipes – Pecan Pie
