You buy a home, it’s exactly what you want – several years go by and one day you look around and go, “I need to revamp the decor, redecorate, update, something!” Then, as you think about all the various DIY kinds of projects you are looking at, you start feeling a little apprehensive if not downright scared.
It doesn’t have to be this way! Renovations or just revamping your house can be such fun, and it is an activity that really works the creative part of your brain!
This article is going to give you some great tips that will really help to inspire you to start working on those renovations now. I mean, what else are you going to do while you’re quarantined at home?
A Clean Home Means a Clean Mind!
Wear and tear, day-to-day life and events, they often leave a house looking a little worse for wear. The paint looks a little duller than the day before, the furniture is looking well-used and a bit tattered. Pictures are a little off-kilter from where they should be.
Although it doesn’t seem it, all of these little things can lead to a stressed and crowded mindset. So, cleaning out the house, and giving it a little refreshing revamp now and again, is great for your mental wellbeing. You know how the saying goes, a tidy home is a tidy mind or a clean home is a clean mind. Whichever phrase you use, it all means the same!
You don’t have to do it alone! Get everyone involved! Let the kids get involved and have their dreams fulfilled in getting messy with the wet paint! It may not seem like it, but deep down all they really want is to help mom and dad! Then, afterward, you can all sit down on the sofa together, look around and witness the hard work you all have put into the house, and the reward will be so worth the sweat!
Invest in the Right Materials
Whether you are renovating your entire property or a handful of rooms within your house, it’s important that you invest in the right materials and supplies – even if you are trying to keep the costs down. This is due to the fact that high-quality materials are often much more long-lasting, meaning that you won’t have to pay to replace them quite so frequently.
For example, in regards to your garage, you should ensure that you invest in high-quality flooring – as you should not have to settle for damaged, crack flooring. For example, an Epoxy Garage Floor is a great investment as it can remain in your home for decades without any maintenance whatsoever. This means they are a perfect solution for your garage – whether you plan on turning the space into an office space, workshop, or will be using them to protect your cars from the elements. Not only are they incredibly cost-effective, but they also don’t take too long to install (less than a day), meaning that you won’t have to delay any of your renovations to get the perfect flooring.
Give the Outside of your Home Some Love!
The outside of your house is a huge part of the house that you need to remember to focus on. It is the first part of the house you see when you first pull up or walk up to the door. If the front of your home is dark or miserable-looking, then your mood will automatically fit the mood of the house. Pull up to a colorful and updated happy front, then presto! Just like that, you are in a great mood!
The walls could be re-painted with special exterior paint. You could hire a company such as Andy’s Sprinkler, Drainage & Lighting to fix up the drains and lighting of the inside and outside of your house. It is completely up to you, it is your house at the end of the day!
If you Find Unwanted Visitors
Sometimes, what can happen is when stripping everything down, removing all the furniture, and looking at your bare house for the first time in a possibly a long time, it may sometimes be the case that you find some unwanted visitors. The most popular (by number not by satisfaction) is the common mouse.
Mice or rats are everywhere and can be attracted to many things. They can cause no issues and sometimes they can be a big issue. The best thing to rid of them yourself if there are only a few is mouse and rat traps. Buying bait for rat traps is easy, as many big stores and supermarkets, along with specialist stores will be stocking some form of rat trap or repellent. If the job looks big, for example, they have damaged internal walls, or there is a lot of them, especially rats which tend to be much bigger than mice, then professional pest control would be the best option.
Long Term Savings
When it comes to renovating a home, you need to think of things such as how to keep the house nice and toasty in the winter, you need to think of ways that will reduce the risk of dampness and more. Ways to make your house more efficient in the long run is investing in insulation and de-humidifiers. I am gradually remodeling my home from top to bottom. I bought it in 2016 after my husband passed away. Had the interior repainted and all the carpets and flooring replaced before I moved in. Had the kitchen redone. I am now working my way through room by room getting everything to my liking. Of course, I am 71 years old so I will probably be dead or senile long before I am finished!
We live in an older home and it is in need of some TLC. The master bath is at the top of my list!
