TLC is My Crack and Other Stuff

I normally don’t ‘lump’ together blog posts from the week, but it’s been one of those weeks and the blog posts didn’t get up like I wanted them to, so I’ve decided to put together a little Sunday Musings post for you all to give you a quick peek into what I was doing while I wasn’t here.

SJMS Boosters Club

I volunteer as the Communications/Programs Chairperson for J.’s middle school – the SJMS Boosters Club. We are kinda like the PTA, but not. We don’t have a national charter that we need to pay dues to or anything, so all of the fundraising that we do goes straight back to the school. All of the officers (chairpersons) have children at the middle school, and this is just our way of giving back to the school.  Our spring sports season begins Monday, so I’ve been frantically working on getting the final sports program designed and set up and ready to go to our printer, Battlefield Press. They do a fantastic job with our programs and have the absolute nicest bunch of folks you could ever want to do business with working for them. Truly a top notch printing company. In addition, we have our annual “big” fundraiser coming up on April 20th – the 4th Annual Springtime Booster Bonanza. So we’ve been busy nailing down the last minute details to get that up and going and on track.

LiaH 9th Birthday Celebration Giveaway

I am super excited to be celebrating nine years of blogging – you just have no idea how much of an accomplishment this has been for me. I have tried so many different things over the years to try to find my niche in the world. I remember living in Powhatan and wanting to do my own business and work from home, so I signed up with SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corporation) – you know, the one Tom Bosley did the infomercials for? Who could go wrong with a business that everyone’s favorite dad endorsed, right? I was all excited, I just knew that I was going to make a go of that. I spent hours designing my web site for the business and uploading product images and setting up my store. Nothing, nada, zip. The only sales that I made were from knocking on doors and calling local businesses. Two sales later and about $400 in debt, I gave it up.

I then got extremely hooked on graphic design and web design. Learned how to create all sorts of graphics that I could then customize for use in web sites and blogs. I did that for many, many years. I made a few dollars here and there designing blog layouts for friends and doing custom graphics and blog buttons for others, but not enough that would say – help pay for all of the testosterone carriers back to school needs – or even pay for their lunch money consistently every week. I still love creating graphics and buttons, and do almost all of my own design work here on LiaH – and I still have my blog design site – My Creative Muse – open, but my heart just isn’t in it any longer to do that type of work on a full-time basis.

Not to mention the blog NAME changes … Lord I think Life in a House of Testosterone is like the 8th or 9th name that this poor blog of mine has undergone – but its one that FINALLY fits and fits WELL so we’re keeping it!

So I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you that have followed me and my crazy exploits through the past nine years, have followed me from LiveJournal to Blogger to WordPress and back to Blogger again. It means the world to me and I am so very grateful to have met some truly wonderful people along the way with my blogging – so here’s to another 9 years of ups and downs and tears and laughter!

TLC is my Crack

I have become addicted to the shows on TLC. The only time I change the channel any more is to watch Good Morning America, The View, The Chew and our local Channel 8 Evening News at 6pm and 11pm. The rest of the time? Yeah, the television is on TLC. I have marathon couch potato sessions on the weekends. I’m actually missing some of my Extreme Couponing shows to write up this blog post. I just can’t seem to tear myself away. Some of my favorite shows in a funky collage:

Oh yeah, there’s one other show I like to catch now and again as well – these novice home buyers who buy investment property and then “flip” them and resell the houses at a profit – or try to.

Sunday Dinners

Summer is rapidly approaching here in Virginia. We have had temperatures in the upper 70s and 80s for the past two weeks and it has been absolutely l-o-v-e-l-y to be able to throw open the windows and air out the apartment and let some fresh air and sunshine in. Until the man thing comes home and starts yacking and coughing from the pollen. I’ve been dusting more often with the windows open – but its SO worth it to hear the birds chirping and to feel that gentle breeze coming through the house. I love it!

Unfortunately, with the summer temperatures come the longer days and nobody wanting to eat anything heavy or hot when its boiling outside. We usually eat a lot of sandwiches and salads during the summer months, and its pretty much a grab-and-go kind of deal around here with dinner during the summer.

So today I’m cooking up some chicken breasts, fresh collard greens, cornbread, and having a salad on the side with homemade croutons. It will probably be one of the last “big” meals that I cook till September again, and our last “southern dinner” for the season.

…and with that, I’m off for another hit of crack. Y’all have a great weekend!
