Tracking Teri Hardy Hatland – Continuing Coverage

State Recommends Criminal Charges Against Teri Hardy, her husband Donald Hatland, and their company, Street Repeats LLC

Investigators at the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection have recommended criminal charges be filed against an Iowa promoter for allegedly scamming dozens of local vendors and the Alliant Energy Center in connection with a proposed holiday show.

A DATCP spokesman said that the case against Teri Hardy, her husband Donald Hatland and their company, Street Repeats LLC, was referred to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office on March 27.

The investigation stems from a “Madison Holiday Market” that was scheduled Dec. 10-11, 2016, at the Alliant Energy Center. Hardy solicited vendors at costs ranging from $100-$500 and placed a $900 down payment to reserve exhibition space at the Alliant Energy Center before violating her contract with the facility and sending an email to roughly 150 local merchants on Nov. 20 stating that Street Repeats was canceling all its future events and filing for bankruptcy.

You can read the rest of the story here. Emails to six separate addresses owned by Hardy were unanswered at the time of publication. Also, an email to her bankruptcy lawyer seeking comment was not returned.

3/6/2017 – Vendors Try to Get Answers in Bankruptcy Court

Keloland.com’s own Angela Kennecke made a point of being at Teri Hardy and Don Hatland’s bankruptcy hearing on March 6, 2017 to find out if they had any intention of paying back the vendors that they defrauded with their Street Repeats business scam.

1/20/2017 – Facebook Blocks Accounts for Sharing News About Teri Hardy Hatland in Support of Scam Artist

Once again, Facebook shows a serious lack of judgment and common sense. This blogger awoke this morning to find that my personal Facebook account and subsequently my Facebook page have been blocked for 24 hours because of this post shared about Teri Hardy Hatland:

One can only assume that the Hatlands are behind reporting the post to Facebook and that Facebook, as usual, doesn’t check the validity of posts before denying access to the account holder. In my opinion, their action to block my account yet allow her to continue to use Facebook as a means to scam hundreds of people she is now filing bankruptcy against is their unspoken support of said scam artist.

Of course there is no readily available area to make a complaint to Facebook and appeal their decision either. You cannot silence the truth, and we will continue to post updates as they become available.

1/18/2017 – Late Breaking News on Teri Hardy Hatland

It appears as though Donald C. Hatland (Debtor 1) and Teri Hardy (Debtor 2) have filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy as of 1/9/2017 in the Northern District of Iowa United States Bankruptcy Court. The case number is listed as 17-00021 S.

As you see from the filing, they have only listed Street Repeats LLC under all other names used in the last 8 years which makes you wonder about all of the other “businesses” that Teri has reportedly owned and operated such as Mom Powered Media, Mom to Bed by 8 and Motherhood Defined. Why are they not included in her bankruptcy filing?

Another puzzling item is, if Don and Teri were celebrating their honeymoon in May 2016 at Doubletree Resort Orlando (I mean she did use the hashtag #JustMarried in her post), why isn’t she using what should be her legal name, Teri Hatland? Did she lie to the resort about celebrating their honeymoon to scam a free vacation? Is there any documentation that they were married? We haven’t been able to find a marriage license.

Notices of the bankruptcy filing are hitting creditors mailboxes as of this writing. According to our sources, Don and Teri have filed bankruptcy with 361 creditors. If you happen to be one of those creditors who she scammed out of vendor fees or that she owes money to from blogging endeavors, a Meeting of Creditors is scheduled for 2/6/2017 at 9:30 a.m. Here is the address:

Sioux City Convention Center
Main Floor, Room 3
801 Fourth Street
Sioux City, IA 51101

Deadline to object to the discharge or to challenge whether certain debts are dischargeable is 4/7/2017. We have provided a PDF download of the Title 11 (Bankruptcy) United States Code Section 727 concerning Chapter 7 (liquidation) laws for your review here. If you wish to request your debt be excepted from being discharged under this code, you must file a complaint.

We will keep you updated on any additional information as it becomes available.

As you know, we have been covering the issue of Teri Hardy Hatland, fraudulent blogger, scam artist and owner of Mom Powered Media, Motherhood Defined, Secret Southern Couture, The Iowa Mom and more, for over a year now. On May 30, 2016 we learned of a new business venture that Teri was involved in – Street Repeats. The website listed it as an events and consignment sales website with the largest indoor sales events and specializing in craft fairs, flea markets and yard sale groups.

Street Repeats Facebook Account, owned by Teri Hardy Hatland

It did not take long for Teri to resort to her usual modus operandi with vendor fees being accepted and then events being canceled at the last minute with agreements reading “all fees are non-refundable.” For small businesses and single parents who count on these craft shows to help support their families – it’s a punch to the wallet and can leave them reeling from the effects.

On November 20, 2016, Teri Hardy Hatland and Street Repeats abruptly canceled all of their upcoming events. When Hunter Saenz of WKOW.com TV reached out to her for a statement, she had this to say:

I appreciate you reaching out to us. Unfortunately I can not get into too many details at this time. I can confirm that we had planned an event at the Alliant Energy Center. We spent the last week attempting to work out an agreement with them regarding this event, but in the end they decide to exercise their option to cancel the contract. They did express concerns over the calls they have received regarding this event.

There has been a large number of untrue attacks against Street Repeats, our owners, vendors and event centers. These attacks were extremely defamatory in nature and made with total disregard for the facts. We are very sadden that this was the result as we, along with our vendors were truly looking forward to this event. We had received lots of praise from vendors and customers at our last event and believe this one would have been even better.

After speaking with our attorney we have been left with no other option then to cease operations and file for bankruptcy.

A complete list of vendors have been turned over to our attorney and will be kept apprised of this situation.

-Street Repeats

She has booked shows in South Dakota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, Indiana and Iowa where vendors were notified at the last moment that the show was canceled, or the turnout was much less than she promised it would be. Quite a few times, no advertising was done to promote the events except on their website and social media sites.

In addition, before she removed her Street Repeats website and Facebook page, she had several events scheduled for 2017. We are checking on whether event spaces were booked and paid for or if they were “phantom events” that were never planned.

Street Repeats Events from the Street Repeats Facebook Page before Teri Hardy Hatland deleted the account

Below is a listing of shows that were organized by Street Repeats and Teri Hardy Hatland that either had severely poor turnout or were flat out canceled after the “we are filing bankruptcy” statement. It should be noted that as of December 21, 2016 – there have been no bankruptcy filings for Street Repeats and/or Teri Hardy Hatland.

  • 10/15/2016 – Waterloo Fall Vintage & Craft Market – National Cattle Congress
  • 10/29/2016 – Kansas City Fall Vintage & Craft Market – KCI Expo Center
  • 11/12/2016 – Sioux Center Holiday Craft Market – Terrace View Event Center
  • 11/18/2016 – Sioux Falls Holiday Craft Market – Sioux Falls Convention Center
  • 11/25/2016 – Sioux City Holiday Craft Market – Tuesday Morning Building
  • 12/03/2016 – Minneapolis Holiday Craft Market – Minneapolis Convention Center
  • 12/10/2016 – Madison Holiday Market – Alliant Energy Center

Teri Hardy Hatland and Street Repeats advertised several upcoming events as well for 2017. We strongly urge you NOT to participate in these events if they are still being advertised.

  • 03/25/2017 Kansas City Spring Vintage & Craft Market at the KCI Expo Center
  • 04/08/2017 Sioux Center Spring Vintage & Craft Market at the Terrace View Event Center
  • 04/22/2017 Madison Spring Vintage & Craft Market in Madison, Wisconsin
  • 05/06/2017 Sioux Falls Spring Vintage & Craft Market at the Sioux Falls Convention Center
  • 05/13/2017 Waterloo Spring Vintage & Craft Market at National Cattle Congress

As a result, the vendors and event centers that were scammed by Teri Hardy Hatland are pushing back and not just sitting silently on the sidelines and doing nothing. Complaints have been filed with their local consumer protection offices, police reports have been made, and Street Repeats now has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.

We here at Life in a House of Testosterone have been informing our readers about this scam artist for over a year, and we will continue to cover the investigation and provide updated information as it becomes available.

Below you will find updated information on all of the articles that we have published, links to news stories and interviews with Teri Hardy Hatland from local television stations in her area, as well as information regarding her social media sites and website links – many of which she has removed or has set up methods to block me from being able to view. However, she cannot block out the entire world or online communities of bloggers and vendors who are banding together to help put an end to the destruction she leaves in her wake.

Teri Hardy Hatland In The News

Angela Kennecke – News Anchor/Business Editor at KELOLAND News Station

Angela is the news anchor who has reported several times on Teri Hardy Hatland and the Street Repeats scams, as well as an evening news broadcast (Tracking Teri) where Angela went to Teri’s residence to ask her directly if she or Street Repeats had any intention of refunding the vendors their fees. Teri replied “no comment” and shut the door.

History of Failing to Pay Courts and Businesses

Teri Hardy Hatland has a history of skipping out on agreements that she’s made. Teri Hardy Hatland was sentenced to 90 days in jail and six years’ probation for stealing money from her employer and writing bad checks in 2000 when she resided in Arkansas. At the time, she was also known as Teri McDonald and Teri Crowley.

While on probation she got in trouble again for writing more bad checks and running a check kiting scheme. She owes approximately $17,000 and has never paid the money back, nor did she met the terms of her probation before leaving Arkansas.

She never finished paying the Sioux Falls Convention Center for the July event she held, and never paid the deposit for the November show; so the convention center removed the November show from their website and their Facebook page.

She also failed to pay the National Cattle Congress event center the remaining $875 for the 10/15/2016 event. We’re sure there are many more event spaces out there that are waiting for the remainder of their money which, unfortunately, we are quite certain they will never see unless charges are brought up against her.

An Alert for the Blogging Community on Teri Hardy Hatland

In May 2015 we broke the news about Teri Hardy and the fraudulent behavior of Mom Powered Media and Motherhood Defined. Many bloggers who had been threatened with being blacklisted from working with companies and sponsors if they said anything about how she treated them – finally realized that they were not the only ones who had been mistreated and scammed by her and came forward to tell their stories. We brought to light the udeceptive practices of Mom Powered Media, the blogging conference that was canceled but still accepting payments for hotel rooms and attendance fees, and the partnership scam with one particular blogger. You can read the details of that article here.

Update on Teri Hardy Hatland, Fraudulent Blogger

In July 2015, we updated you on the latest information regarding Teri Hardy Hatland and we put together a list of giveaways from her Motherhood Defined and Mom Powered Media websites. These giveaways all had winners who never received their prizes. In addition, the $2,500 giveaway that was being held still has no giveaway winner announced. We can only assume that the winning prize was never awarded to any winner and that Teri Hardy Hatland kept the proceeds of money paid by bloggers to cover the cost of the giveaway prize money and the social media links that they purchased. You can read the details of that article here.

Several individuals (who are independent consultants with these companies as well) have contacted the companies and shared the latest news articles and posts concerning Teri Hardy Hatland. • Thanks for the update Tammy … yes, this was/is her main blog. She quite blogging there for awhile when things got hot and I noticed she was posting regularly again. Still waiting to find out if criminal charges are going to be filed against her. Stay tuned.

  1. For someone that just filed for bankruptsey, she is doing a whole lot of fun things and activities along with traveling! Check out her blog and the IG page.
    Such a shame!

    • You are most welcome. I’ve been able to build up a relationship with two of the main reporters in her area and have provided them with all of the information that we have been able to pull together. They in turn let me know when something breaks with the story so I can keep all of you updated as well. Pays to network lol!

  2. WOW! This is unbelievable! I remember reading something a long time ago about her but I did not realize how much is involved now. I feel so bad for those who were swindled by her.

  3. Wow! I had not heard about this. This is such a shame. Thank you so much for sharing and updating.

  4. Wow, thank you so much for sharing this! I have been following bloggers and entering giveaways since 2014. I used to follow her and was pretty shocked to hear all of the terrible things she has done. This is the first update I have read since then though, so I definitely appreciate it.

    • Well you have a LOT to get caught up on then Lauryn. If I can help just one person to keep from being taken advantage of by publishing this information – then it will have all been worth it.

  5. First off, let me begin by saying THANK YOU to each and every one of you who have commented and/or shared these posts about scam artist Teri Hardy Hatland and unfriended/unfollowed the multiple social media accounts and websites that she owns and operates. I woke up this morning – Friday, January 20, 2017 – to find that Facebook has blocked my personal account and subsequently my Facebook page for a period of 24 hours or more for sharing this post below about Teri.

It is a sad day, indeed, when an organization such as Facebook sides with a fraud who owes over $200k to individuals and businesses in multiple states throughout the country. While they continue to allow HER to have multiple Facebook accounts and pages, I get blocked for notifying the public about the continued fraud and scams that this woman gets away with.

We won’t be silenced though. Thank you for your continued support!

  6. I too have followed many different accounts held by Teri!
I have unconditionally followed, read, bought a couple of products, etc. from a lot of different bloggers!
Knowing this makes me leery now about bloggers. BUT on the other hand, it was a blogger/bloggers who informed us of her deceit!
I also feel bad, because I usually like, follow, recommend and share links to my FB friends, Tweeters, Instagram, Pinterest followers, etc.
    Shame on them!!

    • Sue, thank you for your candor. Please know that 98% of the bloggers out there are doing what they love and are 1000% above-board and trustworthy. Unfortunately, it only takes one bad apple to spoil it for the rest of the bunch. It is one of the main reasons that we outed her and continue to update the public as to what is happening with her – BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT HER ASSOCIATED WITH THE BLOGGING COMMUNITY AND SMEARING THE GOOD THAT THE MAJORITY OF BLOGGERS DO. With her being investigated by multiple agencies across multiple states, her reign of terror will be coming to an end and soon. As always; however, we will keep you updated on everything we learn!

  7. Sadly, I used to follow her blogs and am angry that she has screwed so many hard working bloggers/families and small businesses royally!!! What I would like to know is why she is not behind bars? She also shouldn’t be allowed to have any of her debts wiped through bankruptcy.

  8. Holy crap! Thank you for updating this page frequently. I went to some of the links and I had to unfollow alot, I didn’t realize how many different ways I followed her. Happy Holidays!

  9. WOW! Thank you for providing such an extensive and well-researched article. You’ve clearly done a lot of work to get all this information in one thoughtful post. You’re a rockstar, Kim!

      • I can tolerate a lot, and I can overlook a lot, but I won’t allow someone to ruin the industry for those of us who have worked so hard to prove that we are industry influencers and take our jobs seriously … and the craft show vendors shouldn’t have to deal with being taken advantage of and scammed out of their hard-earned money either!

    • Thanks @1alwaysnyc1:disqus I appreciate that … it’s a collaborative effort though! I might be the one putting it all together in one central location – but there are a lot of people assisting with bringing me information to include that they have found and documented or their own personal experiences.
