When you walk into your home, what is the first thing that you think? Is it that you hate the way that your home looks, or is it that lovely feeling of comfort that you didn’t even know you wanted until you had it? If it’s the latter, then we are super happy for you, and you should only make changes if you have the time nor the inclination. Eventually your needs to renovate will win anyway, so you’re not in any rush.
However, if you are struggling with walking into your home because you can’t get over the way that it looks, then it’s time for you to make some changes right now. There are loads of things that you can do on a small budget, so don’t try to use that as an excuse either. The days of dreading looking at your home are over, and we’re going to be talking about how to do that. Keep reading down below if you would like to find out more.
Look At Your Bedroom First
The first thing that we’re going to say is that you should look at your bedroom. Your bedroom is your space, and you should be able to have it look however you want. Now, it’s true to say that the whole home is yours, but the other areas are spaces that you share with other people. So, when you are thinking about design choices, you are going to need to take into account what other people like as well, no? Yes. Your bedroom though is yours, and you can do whatever you want in here to make you feel comfortable.
It might be worth taking a look at getting a better storage solution than the one that you currently have so your room doesn’t look so cluttered. Perhaps you want to get a vanity unit for your bedroom so that you can sit there in the morning to get ready rather than having to trudge to the bathroom. Paint it whatever color you want, hang up artwork or posters or fairy lights, really whatever it is that would make you happy and make you feel comfortable enough to get a good night of sleep.
What’s With The Living Room?
The next place that we’re going to cast our attention to is the living room. The living room is an area in the home that everyone will use to spend time together, so you want to make it as comfortable and as inviting as physically possible. There are a few ways to do this, but you’re going to have to be brave while you are making these changes.
For example, one of the best things that you can do when it comes to your living room is paint it a darker color if you want to go for a cozy, comfortable vibe. If you don’t want this, then a lighter color will be fine, but a deep purple or blue is ideal for comfort. So, it depends on what your goal really is. Even though it might be hard to do something so drastic as a change, you can do it.
As well as this, you want a range of comfort items in this room such as throws, pillows, candles and so much more. There should be a whole load of inspiration pictures on social media that you can use, so it might be worth looking into that to get some ideas so you’re not flying blind.
Check Out The Garden
A place that people always talk about but never really do anything with is the garden. Now, we know that’s not true of all people, and some take their gardening very seriously, but it’s rare these days. You see people who are buying homes saying that they want a garden but they don’t do anything to maintain it when they have it, and then it all gets overgrown to the point where it’s not even usable. You don’t want to let this happen to your garden, and if it already has then it’s time to fix it!
Get out there with your garden tools and start creating a nicer outdoor space. Make sure that there are no weeds growing all over the place, that the grass is cut to a reasonable length, that any flowers you have out there are thriving, not wilting, and so much more. Once you have completed all of the general maintenance, that’s when you can start looking at improving. You can do things like adding a kids play area, a patio area, maybe even an outdoor kitchen? If you have the money and the space, you can even look into adding a pool if that interests you, but let’s be honest here, who is that not going to interest?
Little Changes
The final thing that we are going to look at are the little changes that you can make in each room to ensure that your home is exactly what you want it to be. More often than not, this is going to include little decorative pieces that tie each room together, making everywhere feel part of the same home even though they are different areas. This could be little statues, it could be plants, or it could even be something like decorative curtains that are all hanging in different rooms. If you keep these uniforms, then it helps to tie in the whole house room by room!
Hopefully you have found this article helpful, and now have a better idea of some of the things that you should be looking to create if you want to fall in love with your home all over again. We understand that it’s not that easy and that it takes quite a lot of time and dedication to get this right, not just someone on the internet telling you that it’s time. But, once you have gotten yourself in the right frame of mind, we promise that it will be so much easier to do.
