There is nothing that I love more than curling up on the couch with a hot drink, a warm blanket, and a heartwarming movie such as The Identical, rated PG and about 107 minutes long. The Identical begins by telling you the story of William and Helen Hemsley (Brian Geraghty and Amanda Crew) living during the Great Depression. Helen gives birth to identical twin boys and when country pastor Reece Wade (Ray Liotta) and his wife, Louise Wade (Ashley Judd) come to town, William and Helen realize that giving one of their twin boys to the Wades is the only way that they will both survive, and bless the childless pastor and his wife at the same time.

Review and Giveaway - The Identical

Drexel Hemsley (Blake Rayne) stays with the Hemsleys, while Ryan Wade (Blake Rayne) grows up during the Great Depression with the pastor and his wife, unaware that he is not their biological son. Ryan is directed by his father to hear the calling and become a preacher – a life he grows increasingly disheartened with as he embraces his real dream of writing and playing music. Encouraged by his wife, Jenny, (Erin Cottrell) and his best friend, Dino, (Seth Green), Ryan embarks on his own journey, performing the legendary music of rock ‘n roll icon, Drexel Hemsley, in sold-out venues all across the country.

After Ryan’s father falls ill, he finds the letter that William and Helen Hemsley gave to Reece and Louise Wade to give to Ryan upon their death, and realizes that Drexel is more than just his inspiration; he is his identical twin brother that was separated from him at birth. A reeling Ryan is left to question everything he’s ever believed about his family, his dream and discovering his destiny.

The Identical is a captivating story about a family restored and a life discovered that lifts your soul and warms your heart. I literally lost count of the times that I cried throughout this movie. I definitely give it a five star rating!

  1. This sounds like a really good movie and I'm intrigued how they show the brothers lives as they were raised by different parents.
